We use nearly 2 million plastic bags globally and over 1 million plastic bottles are purchased per minute, as highlighted in 2017. It is estimated between 8 – 10 million tonnes of plastic enter the seas and oceans, yearly. Now to put this in perspective it takes 450 years for a plastic bottle to completely degrade. Besides the obvious implications of amassing mass quantities of plastic bottles at landfills and waterways, bottled water also requires up to 2,000 times the energy used to produce tap water.
